Midtown Loft

New York, NY  /  Completed 2002

Located in a former garment manufacturing building, this loft renovation called for both living and working space; with maximum flexibility in a relatively restrictive space. To accomplish this, a thickened wall system, with soffits, clearstory, shelving and movable partition elements was wrapped throughout the plan. The movable partitions, made of translucent panels, allows for different spatial and volumetric configurations, supports flexible programming and makes the most of the limited natural light in this high-rise neighborhood. The architectural fixtures are comprised of a palette of natural materials and surfaces, including polished concrete floors, concrete counters, mahogany millwork, black iron architectural components, translucent panels, and bright, primary colored tiles in the bathroom.
